Blake Lively’s New Lifestyle Site

I did a quick drive-by on Blake Lively’s new “lifestyle” website called Preserve.us. Welp, that was a serious waste of time. I’m all for capitalism and entrepreneurship; have no issue with people getting paid. But where I draw the line is, celebrities going live with these websites (Gwyneth Paltrow and her idiotic GOOP site comes to mind) selling merchandise that is either far too expensive for the average person. Or loaded with products that can be bought at any supermarket, department store or my personal favorite, Bed, Bath and Beyond, for much less. Blake Lively’s site is full of inane ramblings, random over-used quotes, odd pictures and quite frankly a very depressing tone emanating from the home page….bizarre.

Then when you look further and go to the product prompt, there’s BBQ sauce mixed with jewelry, clothing, pillows and other items that visually, makes no damned sense. Just because you can do something, doesn’t always mean you should. I feel Ms. Lively should probably do what she does best and that’s walk red carpets, wear fabulously expensive designer clothes, cuddle up to that hunky bundle of goodness husband of hers and just be a TV and movie star. Lets face it, she’s not Kim K who can make a dollar out of 10 cents for doing nothing. But I’m sure she’ll do well selling her wares to other celebs and the wealthy who have disposable income to burn. After-all, they’re usually the ones who keep celebrity sites afloat anyway. I mean outside of a handful of star-struck fans but that’s another topic I’ll save for later.

Golden Globes 2013 is Now in the Record Books…

Morning! Another Golden Globes Award Show has been marked in the record books. A few surprises such as Argo and Ben Affleck winning Best Picture and Best Director upsetting the expected winners of either Lincoln or Les Miz. Now take that Academy Awards. Ben also won as Best Director at the Critics Choice Awards a couple of days back. Homeland on Showtime, ending the reign of Breaking Bad and Mad Men as Best Television Series, Drama. As well as Claire Danes and Damien Lewis winning for Best Actor and Actress in a Television Series, Drama.  Former President Bill Clinton made a surprise appearance to a standing ovation. To this day, he is my favorite President. Olympic Gold Medalist, Gabby Douglas was looking rather stylish on the red carpet.

But the most buzzed about part of the evening was Jodie Foster’s rambling, sometimes incoherent, yet poignant acceptance speech for The Cecile B. DeMille Award for Lifetime Achievement. Twitter, Facebook and all across every social media site known to humankind, was  commenting and dissecting its meaning. She kinda, sorta, but not really “came out” or did she? No one is really quite sure on that one. In either case, her sexual orientation is one of the most well-known, best kept secrets in Hollywood, next! She also went into a diatribe about privacy, which by that time, we were all convinced the champagne was really doing most of the talking.

I also must give some love to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler…they were really funny and entertaining. They kept that show moving and it was quite an improvement over Ricky Gervais.

That’s it for now, next stop The Oscars!

Here’s a Picture Inside the Grand Ballroom – Golden Globes 2013.

Greetings from the Golden Globes 2013!

Well, here I am at the Hilton in Beverly Hills, in the middle of all the action, watching as the celebrities parade down the red carpet strutting their stuff for the world-wide press. I saw my boy Denzel Washington with his daughter. George Clooney with his Glamazon girlfriend Stacey Kiebler and Adele, this being her first appearance since giving birth to her handsome young son.

So far, practically everyone is hitting it out of the park with their fashion choices. However, there’s always the exception to every rule. Amy Poehler and Sienna Miller were just hot messes. Amy Poehler wore this ill-fitting tuxedo jacket with matching tight Capri pants rising up where no pant should EVER rise out in public. If she has a stylist and her stylist pulled that ensemble for her to wear tonight, then that stylist should be fired immediately. But if Amy made the decision herself, then she needs a stylist PDQ (pretty damn quick). See below.

And for our next little fashion disaster, Sienna Miller. I hate putting her in this category because she is a cute as a button. She proved that she has acting chops portraying Tippi Hedren in HBO’s “The Girl” as well as “Stardust” and  “Factory Girl” . But someone, somewhere please help Ms. Miller with her wardrobe choices. This 60’s inspired ensemble should have stayed in the wardrobe department at HBO. The movie has wrapped, so now she can stop channeling the 60’s mod look….a bad 60’s interpretation at that.

Oh boy, and here’s the biggest fashion fails of the evening…they’re a couple, she’s a Golden Globe and Oscar nominated actress and he’s a quirky director who can really bring the freaky to a film, but I like them. These two characters dance by their own little weird tunes and you gotta love’em. Give up…Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton. What can I say?

And now, here are my choices so far for Best Dressed at the 2013 Golden Globes. First up, Naomi Watts in Zac Posen.

Shaun Robinson – Access Hollywood. She reports on celebrities and what they’re wearing, but tonight she was right up there with the best of them with her lovely gown by Pamela Roland.

Well that’s it for now. I’m starved, my Spanx are cutting off my circulation and I need some champagne. Good night everyone from the 2013 Golden Globes.

Weekend Hangout – The Birthday Continues…..River Cafe

After a wonderful celebration with family and friends in LA on my actual birthday of October 19th, my friends in New York planned a 2nd birthday celebration. This time it was in New York or Brooklyn to be exact, at the fabulous River Cafe. This place is hands down, one of my favorite places to dine. If you want to have a romantic evening or just gather with your family and friends, this is the place to be.

The River Café draws more New Yorkers and visitors into Brooklyn than just about any entity since Coney Island. It has been the location of many major films, hundreds of commercials and countless television shows. It has hosted many of the most famous – from within government and business to celebrity and royalty from around the world.

The River Cafe has won numerous awards including The 2012 Michelin Guide Award, Distinguished Restaurants of North America Award (DiRoNA), The New York Parks Council Award and The Municipal Arts Society Award.

I would highly recommend if you’re in New York, make a reservation, because if the food doesn’t do it for you (and it would be surprising if it doesn’t), the spectacular views and excellent service will have you hooked!

5 Million Dollar Dress…Well Alrighty Then!

5 Million Dollar Dress…Well Alrighty Then!

I know that I love clothes and I also admit I’ve paid far too much money for just about everything in my closet. I have a serious shoe monkey on my back and I’m somewhere near Mariah Carey and Imelda Marcos territory, but this gown is so out of my consciousness that it’s almost overwhelming.

British designer Debbie Wingham created this billionaire’s trophy wife’s or girlfriend’s haute couture frock which is adorned with 50 2-carat black diamonds. This bad girl weighs a mind-blowing 29 pounds and would be a bit difficult to wear for some of our more delicate sisters-in-fashion, considering some of them haven’t eaten since the 90’s.

Wingham who sewed the extravagant eyesight blinding frock herself, stated that her gown was ” an anthem for a beautiful woman who loves life”.  Ahem…or a gold-digger who knows how to land herself a sugar daddy or marry Daddy Warbucks. As the saying goes “there’s a sucker born every minute” and that sucker usually has a ton of zeros after his name.

I’m not hating on anyone who can afford such a magnificent creation, but….why? At least if you’re spending your money on building something that could lead to jobs, helping the environment, homes for the poor…something tangible, most people can wrap their mind around it, but for a gown that will probably sit in some rich chick’s closet for bragging rights or who brings it out to play once to rub other people’s noses in her luck to have her boyfriend or spouse buy it for her, is insanity. Whoever buys this gown will have too much money and not enough common sense.

Hold up, this is not meant to be sexist, there are women out in the world who make their own money and can buy the gown for themselves, but usually, we have a lot more restraint and a lot less egotism than to buy a 5 million dollar gown. Yes we have tons of shoes and handbags, but most of us will draw the line in the sand. We’ll oooohhhhh and aaaaaahhhhhh at the beauty of something like this, but the credit card stays in the purse. My feet may sometimes scream in pain for fashion, but I’m not sleeping in my car for it.
